How to Design with O-PET

OPET DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

  • CORNERS AND EDGES SHOULD BE DESIGNED WITH A RADIUS, NO SHARP BENDS
  • EMBOSSING / DE-BOSSING FOR MOLDED IN BOTTLE DECORATION POSSIBLE
  • DECORATION GENERALLY PRESSURE SENSITIVE LABEL DUE TO DIFFICULTY IN SILK SCREEN PRINTING OF PET
  • COMPOUND CURVES ON DECO / LABEL AREAS MAKE DECORATION DIFFICULT
  • TO UTILIZE EXISTING PREFORMS & PREFORM TOOLING, STRETCH RATIOS MUST BE EVALUATED
CALCULATIONS TO DETERMINE IF A PREFORM WILL MANUFACTURE A BOTTLE
  1. Length Calculations (Axial)
    • Preform Length x 2.25 Maximum
    • Preform Length x 1.8 Minimum
    • Preform Length is calculated from bottom of transfer bead to bottom of preform
  2. Width Calculations (Body)
    • Preform Width x 4 Maximum
    • Preform Width x 3 Minimum
    • Calculation is based upon widest part of bottle to determine if preform will work
  3. Depth vs. Width Calculations for Oval Bottles
    • Width of bottle can be no more than twice the depth
